String Bags

EDM number 161 in 2002-03, proposed by Tom Brake on 20/11/2002.

That this House notes the enterprising initiative of Kate Smith and String Bag Lady Ltd of Wallington, Surrey; that approximately 12 billion plastic bags are provided annually in the United Kingdom; that string bags provide an environmentally friendly alternative to plastic bags which are supplied in the majority of United Kingdom supermarkets; that string bags provided by the String Bag Lady also meet the requirements of the Fair Trade Foundation and are branded as such; and calls on supermarkets in the United Kingdom to provide string bags as a greener alternative to plastic bags.

This motion has been signed by a total of 45 MPs.
