BBC Three

EDM number 962 in 2001-02, proposed by John Grogan on 07/03/2002.

That this House is concerned that young people are now watching less news and current affairs programming than the average viewer; welcomes the BBC's proposals for its new free-to-air digital channel BBC Three aimed at young adults which will combine intelligent entertainment and new British drama with 30 new half-hour current affairs programmes a year and hourly news bulletins, a dedicated interactive news service and online support covering breaking news with deeper information on subjects that particularly touch younger audiences; welcomes BBC Three's firm commitment to supporting multicultural perspectives and to harnessing and reflecting the best British creative talent from around the UK; and urges the Secretary of State for the Department of Culture, Media and Sport to grant approval to BBC Three as soon as possible.

This motion has been signed by a total of 92 MPs.
