Removal Of Cfcs From Redundant Appliances
EDM number 887 in 2001-02, proposed by Nick Harvey on 26/02/2002.
That this House acknowledges the need to remove ozone-depleting CFCs from refrigerators and freezers; welcomes the fact that under an EU directive and the Kyoto Protocol, redundant appliances are to be recycled; calls on the Government to act immediately to develop a national standard for the CFC removal process, so that appropriate facilities can be built to remove the dangerous substances, and that appliances need not be held in abeyance in stockpiles any longer; deplores the fact that the Government has not allocated sufficient funds to local authorities to finance the stockpiling process; and urges the Government to act before the backlog becomes too severe for councils to cope.
