Free Off-Peak Travel For Pensioners
EDM number 758 in 2001-02, proposed by Lindsay Hoyle on 29/01/2002.
That this House notes the excellent scheme run in London whereby pensioners travel free on public transport from 9.30am; recognises that many pensioners throughout the country where such concessionary schemes do not exist are dependant on public transport and that the cost of using public transport accounts for a significant portion of pensioners' disposable income; further notes that many off-peak bus and rail services run empty and at a loss; and calls on the Government to introduce free travel on public transport during off-peak times both to assist pensioners and ensure that we have a better used public transport system.
