The Ministry Of Defence And Asbestos Related Diseases
EDM number 537 in 2001-02, proposed by Mike Hancock on 06/12/2001.
That this House condemns the Government for abandoning its moral obligation to give those armed forces and civilians employed by the Ministry of Defence who have developed asbestosis related diseases the same level of compensation given to miners; recognises the tragic consequences these people and their families are forced to bear and the agonising pain of such diseases; and believes that justice demands that the Government review the level of compensation given to these former armed services personnel and civilian Ministry of Defence employees so that it matches that given to miners.
