Breastfeeding Strategy In England
EDM number 439 in 2001-02, proposed by Sandra Gidley on 19/11/2001.
That this House notes improving support for breastfeeding is a fundamental public health measure which will both help to improve the health of the nation and reduce inequalities; notes that Northern Ireland, Wales and most health boards in Scotland have breastfeeding strategies and are now working on implementation, although England does not; and believes that, in order to support all women who want to breastfeed, a wide ranging breastfeeding strategy for England is needed which includes plans to raise public awareness, improve education and health professional training in breastfeeding, develop employment law, clarify research priorities, provide accurate information and skilled support through the health service and implement the World Health Organisation's International Code of Marketing of Breast-milk Substitutes throughout the United Kingdom.
