Progress On Paying Miners Compensation In Wales;amdt. Line 1:

leave out from 'House' to end and add 'expresses its deepest concern at the continuing delay in dealing with claims for compensation by former miners and their families following the High Court ruling of 23rd January 1998; deplores the most recent figures from the DTI which indicate that only 4.5 per cent. of the total number of claims have received full and final settlement in Wales compared to a UK average of 7.7 per cent.; urges the Government to reduce the 50 per cent. entitlements it presently claims from the surpluses of the BCSS and the MPS pension schemes, representing a total of ú5 billion since 1994, to allow this money to be reinvested in the aforementioned schemes for the benefit of former miners and their families; and congratulates all those who continue to campaign for justice for miners and their families.'.
