EDM number 420 in 2001-02, proposed by Jackie Lawrence on 14/11/2001.
That this House welcomes the progress made in paying out compensation to miners and their widows in Wales which has now topped ú100 million; notes that ú1 million a week is being paid out in Wales; acknowledges that initially the rate of payment has not yet been as rapid as all would desire; recognises the important contribution of the Welsh Monitoring Sub Group set up by the Secretary of State for Wales; notes that the group by bringing together all the stakeholders has succeeded in pushing forward the prioritising of testing for older miners; looks forward to seeing an increase in more full and final offers being made; and congratulates all those who have campaigned for justice for miners and their widows.
