Mayor Of London And Regional Funding

EDM number 41 in 2001-02, proposed by Adrian Sanders on 27/06/2001.

That this House condemns the reported comments of the Mayor of London that funds should be switched from the regions of England to London; notes that public spending per person is 21 per cent. higher in the capital than in the rest of England; suggests that the Mayor should visit somewhere like the far South West to see how much that area has suffered from lack of investment as more and more of the country's wealth and prosperity has been concentrated in London and the South East; and believes that the answer to assisting those pockets of deprivation that exist in London would be to give the Mayor and GLA greater powers to redistribute resources within the capital rather than argue that the Government should take funds away from regions that need more, not less investment.
