Drug Dumping

EDM number 1095 in 2001-02, proposed by Colin Breed on 10/04/2002.

That this House condemns the act of international drug dumping of inappropriate and sometimes harmful drugs by individuals and companies to developing countries, such as appetite stimulants being donated to famine-stricken Sudan, in order for drug companies to avoid costly waste disposal bills and claim tax rebates; supports the recommendations made in the War on Want report 'Drug Donations: corporate charity or taxpayer subsidy'; and recommends that there should be a publicly available register of donated drugs, that WHO guidelines be incorporated into UK law and that tax legislation be not weakened in the UK to permit these practices so as to ensure that only lifesaving and useful drugs are donated where they are needed most.

This motion has been signed by a total of 50 MPs.
