National Audit Of Epilepsy-Related Death

EDM number 1092 in 2001-02, proposed by Patsy Calton on 10/04/2002.

That this House welcomes the recommendation of the Chief Medical Officer for England that an action plan should be in place within three months of completion of the National Audit of Epilepsy-related death to cut the level of preventable epilepsy-related death; notes that every year 1,000 people, mostly young adults, due because of epilepsy, that most deaths are seizure-related, and that while 70 per cent. of people with epilepsy have the potential to become seizure-free, five government reports since 1953 show that epilepsy management in the UK is sub-optimal; and calls on the Government to debate this issue and take necessary action.

This motion has been signed by a total of 113 MPs.
