Send A Cow
EDM number 1090 in 2001-02, proposed by Colin Breed on 10/04/2002.
That this House recognises and congratulates the work carried out by Send a Cow, which started in 1988 when a Ugandan bishop, hearing about the surplus milk lakes in Britain, appealed for aid and in response British farmers sent 300 cows between 1988 and 1996 instead of milk, which are now purchased directly in Africa; further recognises the important sustainability of this action and the impact Send a Cow has on a poor family in East Africa by providing nutrition, manure and excess milk to sell to invest in education and a better future; and welcomes the initiative that the only condition on receiving a cow is to pass the first female calf on to another family.
