Reform Of The Electricity Market;amdt. Line 1:

EDM number 27A1 in 1998-99, proposed by Michael Clapham on 01/12/1998.

leave out from 'warning' to end and add 'notes that since 1970 carbon dioxide emissions from coal burning have fallen by 52 per cent. whilst over the same period those from transport have doubled and considers that it is for other sectors of the economy to now make their contribution; further notes that the Government's cost comparisons for electricity generation favour existing coal fired stations over gas fired ones and considers that any further increase in the gas burn will threaten diversity and security of supply; and therefore calls on the Government to retain the presumption against gas stations when it has completed its reform of the electricity market because the impending reliance on imported gas will be detrimental to the UK economy.'.

This is a ammendment to 27.
