North West Water Land At Audenshaw
EDM number 90 in 1997-98, proposed by Gerald Kaufman on 09/06/1997.
That this House warns North West Water of its implacable opposition to any attempt by that organisation to wreck and ruin its land at Audenshaw, (recently known as Kingswater Park), by an asset-stripping exercise of building a 'business park' of offices, light industry, housing and shops on East Manchester's green lung; challenges North West Water to quantify and categorise the number of jobs which it claims such a development would create, stating what and how many jobs would be created, how many would be long-term jobs, how many would be new jobs as distinct from transferred jobs, how many would be jobs for local people as distinct from jobs from people drafted in from elsewhere and how many would be hi-tech jobs; rejects the concept of designed and landscape areas replacing natural and accessible open space; draws attention to the archaeological and heritage merits of Kingswater Park as it at present exists; calls attention to the determined opposition of Fairfield Golf Club to the destruction of its course; and advises North West Water to abandon this planned abomination once and for all.
