Conduct Of The Honourable Member For New Forest West
EDM number 482 in 1997-98, proposed by Dari Taylor on 19/11/1997.
That this House condemns and dissociates itself with the utterly offensive and shameful use of a quotation of St. Bernard of Clairvaux, made by the honourable Member for New Forest West, when referring to women who serve in the Armed Forces, that 'To be always with a woman and not to have intercourse with her is more difficult that to raise the dead' and the following reprehensible comment made by the honourable Member, that 'As one is not capable of the latter, one is certainly not capable of the former', since both quotation and comment demean the valid contribution that women can and will continue to make in the British Armed Forces.
