50th Anniversary Of Marie Curie Cancer Care
EDM number 1545 in 1997-98, proposed by Ann Cryer on 13/07/1998.
That this House congratulates Marie Curie Cancer Care, the United Kingdom's comprehensive cancer charity, on reaching its 50th anniversary this year; recognises the charity's enormous contribution to cancer care through its 6,000-plus nurses working in the homes of the seriously ill, 11 centres providing specialist hospice care and their world-leading research institute looking into the causes and prevention of cancer, and their comprehensive education department offering specialist courses to all health care professionals; and supports its appeal to raise ú5.2 million for a 'Centre of Excellence' in Bradford, which will be the most modern facility of its kind in the United Kingdom, catering for the needs of a large and culturally diverse population of local cancer patients, their families and people with other life-threatening illnesses.
