Anglo-Irish Relations And Northern Ireland;amdt. Line 1:
EDM number 875A1 in 1993-94, proposed by Thomas McAvoy on 17/03/1994.
leave out form 'House' to end and add 'notes the completely inaccurate story in to-day's Independent newspaper, 'Ireland blamed for lapses of security' which cannot be allowed to go unchallenged; further notes that the success rate of the Garda in finding arms and explosives, and making arrests, has been first rate and is plain for all to see; notes that a classic example of this was the recent intercept of a Mark 15 mortar in Donnyloop, opposite Strabane, on 4th March and that this and other interceptions have been of crucial importance to the well-being of the security forces, and the general public, in Northern Ireland; welcomes the confirmation of Sir Hugh Annesley, Chief Constable of the R.U.C. that the level of cross-border co-operation is at an all-time high and specifically, that any suggestion that the Garda recently failed to follow through R.U.C. intelligence in respect of anticipated terrorist attacks in Great Britain is completely without foundation; further notes that the R.U.C. has not made any complaint and that there is no reason for so doing; and welcomes his declaration that the R.U.C. is appreciative of the co-operation it receives from the Garda and of the cordial and highly professional relationship which exists between it and the Royal Ulster Constabulary.'.
This is a ammendment to 875.
