Hinckley Council Investigation;amdt. Line 1:

EDM number 1278A1 in 1992-93, proposed by David Tredinnick on 01/02/1993.

leave out from 'House' to end and add 'notes that allegations of illegal actions by Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, made by opposition councillors and others to Leicestershire Constabulary concerning the Council's policy on the supply of copies of leisure service contracts to councillors have been fully investigated by Leicestershire Constabulary and that nothing of a criminal nature was established, and there was no case to answer; considers these unfounded allegations to be insignificant when compared with the allegations which implicate Labour councillors of extensive fraud at Labour-controlled Lambeth and Hackney Councils; further notes that the District Auditor in the summary of findings of his report (November 1992) entitled, The use of an enquiry agent to report on a councillor, section 9, page 4, stated 'I do not believe that making enquiries on the Council's behalf was, as such, unlawful.I do not therefore intend to take any action to have the item of account so declared'; and recognises that the former leader of Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council, Councillor M.Halliday,MBE,resigned as leader of the council because of the increased commitments caused by his successful election as a Conservative County Councillor.'.

This is a ammendment to 1278.
