Minister For Tourism

That this House recognises that tourism is the world's largest industry, employing 112 million people, generating ú1.4 trillion in annual revenues and delivering no less that 5.5 per cent. of world GNP; and calls upon the Government to appoint a Minister for Tourism whose remit would include the promotion of schemes to keep rural and coastal areas clean and well tended, the development of public transport to provide access to tourist attractions and countryside walks, direct assistance to heritage sites and activities and the commissioning of comprehensive studies on the overall impact of tourism.
