Badgers And Tuberculosis In Cattle;amdt. Line 1:

EDM number 504A1 in 1991-92, proposed by Paul Marland on 22/01/1992.

leave out from 'notes' to end and add 'that there is very clear evidence showing that Bovine TB is spread to cattle by badgers, that the Ministry of Agriculture's TB control strategy is based on the recommendations of the respected and independent Dunnet Committee; further notes that badgers are only taken from farms where there has been a TB outbreak and these 800 are fraction of the 20,000 killed on the roads each year, out of a total badger population of 220,000; believes it is highly irresponsible of the Labour Party to suggest abandoning controls on such potentially dangerous disease as TB to rage unchecked through the country's cattle herds with a greatly increased risk to human health; and urges the Government to speed up its work on a live badger test in order that only diseased badgers need be humanely destroyed whilst healthy ones can be returned to the wild.'.

This is a ammendment to 504.
