Defence Of The British Sausage
EDM number 885 in 1990-91, proposed by Michael Colvin on 23/05/1991.
That this House is concerned with the way in which the European Commission is drafting a range of food legislation which discriminates against many foods which have been enjoyed in the United Kingdom for many years including minced meat, the British sausage, and flavoured crisps; insists that none of these present a danger to health when properly prepared; recognises that much of this legislation is drafted with far greater thought for the interests of the Commission itself and for powerful European producer lobbies in other member states than for the United Kingdom consumer; and urges Her Majesty's Government to take all necessary steps to bring about a more equitable system for making European legislation by ensuring that the views of food manufacturers, retailers and consumers are balanced against those of the Commission.
