Discount Parcel Post Rates For Forces In The Gulf
EDM number 388 in 1990-91, proposed by Richard Livsey on 30/01/1991.
That this House notes with concern that relatives sending parcels to forces serving in the Gulf are being charged by Royal Mail Parcel Force a minimum charge of up to ú2 for parcels up to the first kilo, and a maximum charge of ú5 for a maximum parcel weight of 10 kilos; further notes that these charges are almost identical to internal surface parcel charges within the United Kingdom; believes this to be unfair to caring relatives who wish to send parcels to boost the morale of our service personnel in the Gulf; and requests that the Ministry of Defence and Royal Mail Parcel Force liaise to ensure that parcels can be sent to the Gulf at discount charges of 45p and 52p per parcel item, which are the current rates applying to parcels sent to our forces serving in the Falklands.
