Traditional Tarts
EDM number 116 in 1990-91, proposed by Nicholas Winterton on 26/11/1990.
That this House notes with concern that under the Food Hygiene (Amendment) Regulations 1990, freshly-baked egg products, such as quiche and custard tarts, will have to be refrigerated to very low temperatures unless intended for sale within four hours; further notes that there is no proven risk associated with eating egg products sold at ambient temperatures on the day of production and that few craft bakers will be in a position to meet the new requirements; and urges the Secretary of State to amend the Regulations to permit the sale of baked egg products at ambient temperature on the day of production thereby ensuring that consumers will continue to be able to buy genuinely fresh, traditional tarts and quiches.
