Royal Welch Fusiliers
EDM number 1037 in 1990-91, proposed by Martyn Jones on 25/06/1991.
That this House rejects any reduction in the armed forces that includes the amalgamation of the Royal Welch Fusiliers, a regiment with an honourable 300-year history which is a major source of employment for young Welshmen and a major contributor to the Welsh economy; and recognises, in addition, that the Royal Welch Fusiliers are a successful recruiting regiment and that, if this regiment is lost, Wales would be treated differently to Scotland since Scotland will have five regiments after Options for Change but Wales would have only one, despite having nearly two-thirds of Scotland's population.
