Charges For Eye Tests
EDM number 857 in 1989-90, proposed by Margaret Ewing on 18/04/1990.
That this House notes with grave concern that a recent survey conducted by the Royal National Institute for the Blind revealed that 2, 240,000 people have not taken a sight test because they would have to pay; notes that people on low incomes are twice as likely to be deterred as the better-off, with the poorest three times more likely to be deterred; and urges the Government to repeal this section of the Health and Medicines Act and to restore free eye-testing as a matter of urgency.
