Congleton Borough Council And The Honourable Member For Congleton;amdt. Line 1:

EDM number 647A1 in 1989-90, proposed by Ann Winterton on 06/03/1990.

Leave out from 'House' to end and add 'notes the remarks of the honourable Member for Congleton that although the Congleton Borough Council is a reasonably well-managed, low spending council, it is not as prudent as its neighbour in the Borough of Macclesfield; further notes that the borough council element of the community charge in Congleton is only 8 per cent. with the remaining 92 per cent. being represented by the contribution to the profligate and irresponsible Cheshire County Council whose Socialist administration continues to be propped-up by the Liberal Democrats; regrets that the connivance of the Socialists and the Liberal Democrats at County Hall has led to a totally unnecessary increase of ú83 per charge-payer in the level of community charge being faced by the residents of Cheshire; and urges the Minister to step in and cap the community charge set by the Cheshire County Council so that residents of the county are not left to pick up the tab for the irresponsible and unprofessional approach of the Socialist-Liberal Democratic alliance at county level.

This is a ammendment to 647.
