Animal Testing And Cosmetics
EDM number 639 in 1989-90, proposed by James Wallace on 01/03/1990.
That this House is appalled that consideration is being given to the introduction of a European Council directive which would make animal testing mandatory for both new and existing cosmetics; congratulates The Body Shop on providing an excellent range of products without recourse to abuse of animals; notes the overwhelming public support for cruelty-free products and opposition to unnecessary animal testing as evidenced by the hundreds of thousands of people who have signed a petition to that effect; and calls on the European Community to use the opportunity afforded by the draft Directive to ban all animal testing in respect of cosmetics within the shortest time possible.
