Competitive Tendering Damage And Review
EDM number 638 in 1989-90, proposed by Ronnie Fearn on 01/03/1990.
That this House notes with concern the damage to property and the environment that is often inflicted on local areas as a result of competitive tendering, an example of which is the ripping out of fences, hedges, shrubs and pathways, and the destruction of flowers and lawn beds of council houses in Wessex Road, Salisbury; further notes that in many cases the damage is not made good; and calls upon the Government to launch a review of competitive tendering practices of local authorities and health authorities to be conducted by an independent body with the remit to report on any financial savings made, the quality of work carried out, the satisfaction or otherwise of recipients and the social consequences of competitive tendering practices on the local community.
