Employment Of Disabled People
EDM number 572 in 1989-90, proposed by Emma Nicholson on 19/02/1990.
That this House notes with great concern the recently published figures which show that no Government Department, nationalised industry or local health authority meets the legal requirement to employ a minimum quota of 3 per cent. disabled people; is deeply disappointed at the lack of success in meeting these targets; believes that it is the duty of public sector employers, and the Government in particular, to set an example of good practice to other employers; calls for a thorough review by all Government Departments of their initiatives to encourage disabled applicants for vacant posts and to provide proper facilities for disabled employees; and looks forward to greater effort by all employers to meet the minimum quota of 3 per cent. disabled.
This motion has been signed by a total of 40 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
