Abuses Within The Motor Trade
EDM number 530 in 1989-90, proposed by Gareth Wardell on 14/02/1990.
That this House believes that measures to protect consumers from dishonest and unscrupulous motor traders are long overdue; and calls upon the Government to support steps to amend the law relating to the supply of unroadworthy vehicles, to regulate the disposal and re-sale of insurance 'write-offs', to prevent the ringing of cars and the deception of consumers and to take steps to prevent the 'clocking' of cars, which now involves fraud amounting to ú100 million a year.
This motion has been signed by a total of 77 MPs.
