Liberal Democrat Action On Food Irradiation

That this House congratulates the Liberal Democrat groups on St. Helens Metropolitan District Council, East Sussex County Council, Lewes District Council and Leamington Spa District Council for their strong stand against plans by Her Majesty's Government to legalise the sale of irradiated food; welcomes their campaigns to inform the general public of the potential dangers of irradiated food; and furthermore deplores the knee-jerk and slavish support of the Conservative group on Lewes District Council for the Government's proposals, and the hostile reaction of the controlling Labour group in St Helens to a Liberal Democrat call for a ban on the purchase of irradiated food if the Government legalises its sale.
