Post Office Parcel Services In Wales
EDM number 434 in 1989-90, proposed by Alun Michael on 01/02/1990.
That this House is disturbed at the proposal to down-grade the Cardiff parcels office, which would mean having no parcel concentration office in Wales; considers that the transfer of South Wales' activities to the Bristol area amounts to an over-centralised approach which is in the interests of neither region; opposes an initiative that would seem to turn South Wales into a branch line after so much effort has been put in by public and private bodies into creating a stronger base for the future economy of the area; notes that such a move would place all parts of Wales one step further away from the hub of parcel activities; and calls on the Post Office to change its plans and invest in a modest up-grading to provide the highest possible standard of parcel service to Wales, based in the Principality.
