Changes In Eastern Europe

EDM number 294 in 1989-90, proposed by Russell Johnston on 15/01/1990.

That this House, in welcoming most warmly the changes in Eastern Europe and saluting the very brave people in Poland, Hungary, East Germany, Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria and Romania, who have endured privation, humiliation, imprisonment and torture in the struggle for freedom profoundly regrets that, while they were doing so, a number of honourable Members of this House and another place gave comfort and encouragement to these totalitarian regimes, excused their conduct and argued that they had public support.

This motion has been signed by a total of 10 MPs.
