Services For Disabled People

EDM number 1471 in 1989-90, proposed by Robert Parry on 30/10/1990.

That this House deeply regrets that the vast majority of people get a raw deal from this Government, which most able-bodied people would simply not tolerate; strongly urges the Government to show far more humanity and generosity in the provision of benefits and facilities for disabled people; and specifically urges the Government to recognise that the costs of disablement are not matched in the vast majority of cases by the pitiful benefits on offer and that the survey conducted in 1989 by the respected Disablement Income Group gave a far more accurate picture of the heavy financial burden borne by many disabled people and their unmet needs and recorded the high level of dissatisfaction and frustration experieced by many disabled people.
