Anniversary Of The Death Of Adam Smith

EDM number 1294 in 1989-90, proposed by Ron Brown on 17/07/1990.

That this House notes the death of Adam Smith, the famous economist, 200 years ago; recognises his special contribution to economic theory, especially his warning to the Bourbons that capitation taxes, which today in Britain are represented by the so-called community charge, could lead to revolution; and believes that in order that everyone should understand the great man's message, as well as keeping their head, the poll tax should be resisted to the full.

This motion has been ammended, see 365A1, 365A2 and 365A3.

This motion has been signed by a total of 6 MPs.
