Milestones Of Maryport

That this House notes that Milestones of Maryport, a company owned by Mr Alan Arnold former owner of Millers Footwear of Cockermouth and Ashworth and Hoyles of Haslingden, Lancashire, is also now in the hands of receivers; wonders what further information concerning the activities of Mr Alan Arnold's activities are going to crawl out of the woodwork in relation to the financial activities of this company and other companies the honourable Member for Workington has had drawn to his attention; believes that whilst it has been perfectly proper for Allerdale District Council, in the public interest to back local firms in an attempt to protect employment, the practice of many local authorities, it equally has a duty to closely monitor the use of ratepayers money and not leave decisions as to its use to those who are involved in off-shore tax havens and questionable speculative activities; and asks financial manager Mr Barry Gale to comment publicly on the changed relationship he now has with Mr Alan Arnold.
