Us Trade Policy
EDM number 1215 in 1989-90, proposed by Alex Carlile on 03/07/1990.
That this House notes with very serious concern the United States of America law incorporated on 25th May into the Dire Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Bill, section 209 of HR 4404, that circuit breakers for United States naval vessels should only be purchased from companies manufacturing in the United States of America and using components substantially manufactured in the United States of America; notes that such protectionist trade policy can adversely affect hundreds, and it may be thousands, of jobs in the United Kingdom; and calls on Her Majesty's Government to make it quite clear that such protectionism is not acceptable and that, should a waiver to this law not be issued by the United States of America Secretary of State then Her Majesty's Government will similarly embargo the purchase of British forces requirements from the United States of America, including such items as the next British tank.
