50th Anniversary Of Soviet Military Occupation Of The Baltic States

That this House notes that the 50th anniversary of Soviet military occupation of the Baltic states falls on 14th June; further notes that under the terms of the Fourth Geneva Convention, it is illegal for an occupying power to conscript inhabitants of an occupied territory into its armed forces; welcomes moves by the governments of the Baltic states to set up an alternative labour service as a positive first step to enhance human rights; and calls on the Soviet authorities to respect the forms of alternative service established in the Baltic states.
