Needs Of Disabled Drivers
EDM number 1084 in 1989-90, proposed by Alan Williams on 07/06/1990.
That this House, remembering that a large number of disabled drivers are over 66 years of age and have the right to lead as active and mobile a life as possible, calls upon the Government to re-examine its inadequate assistance to the disabled and to abolish the age-limit for mobility allowance; points out that while the disabled suffer all the sadly normal hardships of high rents, interest rates and mortgage repayments, their cost of living is higher because of their special needs; and also calls upon the Government to abolish the means test for carers in recognition of the fact that they save the country enormous sums of money through their loving dedication which enables the disabled to live outside high-cost institutional units.
This motion has been signed by a total of 55 MPs, 1 of these signatures have been withdrawn.
