EDM number 106 in 1989-90, proposed by Paddy Ashdown on 29/11/1989.

That this House, mindful of the Government's desire to secure equality and fairness in all spheres of life in Northern Ireland and to foster mutual understanding and tolerance, in particular by encouraging the development of integrated schools, calls on the Government to ensure that the provisions of the Education Reform (NI) Order (SI 1989/ 2406) provide that integrated schools which take up the options under the new legislation shall have a balanced membership of their Board of Governors, and that such Boards of Governors shall not be prevented from taking all necessary steps, including any reasonable limitation to open enrolment, between Catholic and Protestant pupils.
