Inspection Of Food Premises By Canterbury City Council
EDM number 1051 in 1989-90, proposed by Russell Johnston on 23/05/1990.
That this House notes with concern the failure of Canterbury City Council to safeguard the public by inspecting food premises sufficiently frequently; deprecates the fact that, while limited staff resources have been channelled into non-essential publicity-seeking events, high-risk food premises have gone without an inspection for up to three years; draws attention to the comments of the Canterbury City Monitoring Officer that this amounts to a deliberate dereliction of a statutory duty in favour of an optional activity and that there is clear evidence of maladministration; condemns the suppression of the monitoring officers' report; and calls for an immediate investigation into the situation, with the results of the investigation to be published in full.
