That this House is concerned by the failure of social media companies to remove hateful and illegal content spreading racism, antisemitism and other forms of discrimination; is further concerned that social media companies are benefitting from immunity from prosecution for failure to remove the content published on their platforms; notes the Ten Minute Rule Motion on Social Media Service Providers (Civil Liability and Oversight); further notes the Motion's proposed rules on disclosure of information and an e-commissioner to ensure an appropriate regulatory approach to social media; congratulates both the German and Australian Parliaments for their efforts to make social media companies deliver proper oversight of their platforms; and calls on Government Ministers to establish an economic incentive for social media companies to abide by their own terms of service and the law.
