HMRC Closure In East Kilbride

EDM number 970 in 2017-19, proposed by Lisa Cameron on 22/02/2018.
Categorised under the topics of Central government, Civil Service, Employment and Taxation.

That this House declares that the proposed closure of HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) in East Kilbride will be damaging to the South Lanarkshire economy and staff; notes that an estimated over 2,000 jobs are threatened by the proposed closure; observes that the closure will be most detrimental to those who are vulnerable, live in local and rural communities and must travel further for work; highlights that it will impact the East Kilbride economy immeasurably as HMRC provides 8.5 per cent of the employment to the area and that no detailed impact assessment has been compiled regarding the staff and area affected; and calls on the Government to review and reverse its decision.
