New Fort William Alloy Wheels Factory

EDM number 939 in 2017-19, proposed by Ian Blackford on 20/02/2018.
Categorised under the topics of Manufacturing industries and Roads.

That this House welcomes the decision of the Highland Council in granting permission for the building of a new factory by GFG Alliance, Liberty British Aluminium which will create 400 new jobs through the production of up to two million alloy wheels each year for the automotive industry; further welcomes the fact that this will not only boost the local economy in Fort William, where the plant will be built alongside the existing smelter, securing 170 jobs, but also benefit the wider community through improvements to the transport infrastructure in addition to the large number of new homes which are being planned to house the new workforce; and notes that this new plant will also be of great benefit to the UK automotive industry through the increased supply of major components from a domestic manufacturer.
