Hospital Car Parking Charges - Headway Case Study 1

EDM number 933 in 2017-19, proposed by Robert Halfon on 08/02/2018.
Categorised under the topics of Health services and Roads.

That this House notes the vital support offered to those with a brain injury by Headway, the brain injury association; understands that brain injury can take many different forms and can lead to a patient staying in hospital for an indeterminate length of time; understands that family members and friends are likely to want to visit the patient as much as possible throughout their time in hospital; further notes the research carried out by Headway into the devastating impact of hospital car parking charges on brain injury patients; is shocked to find that the parents of a patient paid over £1500 to visit their son during his 15 week-long stay in hospital; realises the terrible stress this must present to visitors who wish to care for their loved one at a time when a patient's health can deteriorate very quickly; and therefore urges the Government to scrap hospital car parking charges at NHS hospitals in England.
