Brexit And Environmental Health
EDM number 688 in 2017-19, proposed by Timothy Farron on 13/12/2017.
Categorised under the topics of Environmental protection, EU law and treaties, Food, Health services, International trade and Standards.
That this House recognises the need to maintain and build on food, environmental and public health standards in the UK; notes that these standards have been substantially driven by the EU, and that the UK’s future departure from the EU raises significant questions on the maintenance of these standards in the long term; and calls on the Government to work with environmental health professionals and ensure that when legislation is repatriated into UK law following Brexit, environmental and public health standards are maintained and where necessary strengthened, and not undermined by new international trade agreements.
