HS2 In Cumbria

EDM number 658 in 2017-19, proposed by Timothy Farron on 06/12/2017.
Categorised under the topics of Railways and Tourism.

That this House believes that direct access to new high speed transport connections would bring huge benefits to businesses in Cumbria; notes in particular that the Lake District is Britain's biggest visitor destination after London, and so access to the high speed rail line would be hugely advantageous to the area's tourism economy; strongly regrets therefore that there are currently no plans for HS2 trains to stop at Oxenholme, Penrith or Carlisle stations; expresses concern that no direct access to HS2 high speed trains would be bad for local businesses and the tourism and hospitality industry in particular; and calls on the Government to amend HS2 plans so that high speed trains will stop at these stations.
