Cupar Charity For The Love Of A Child
EDM number 570 in 2017-19, proposed by Stephen Gethins on 21/11/2017.
Categorised under the topics of Asylum, Charities, Children and families and Middle East.
That this House appreciates the efforts of For the Love of a Child, a charity in Cupar, Fife, that supports Syrian refugee children through the Sam's House Little Friendly Space initiative in the Bekaa Valley, Lebanon; recognises the lack of official refugee camps for Syrians in Lebanon; understands that refugees in the Bekaa Valley live in overcrowded conditions with tents and containers as their only shelter; further understands that many of the children living in these settlements have little or no access to education; observes the need for early years centres that focus on childhood trauma in the region; notes founder Donna Jennings' background as a fully qualified drama-therapist and clinical supervisor; supports her work in Lebanon teaching Syrian and Lebanese mothers to support the social and emotional well-being and development of 60 children aged two to five; congratulates Mrs Jennings as the recipient of a Daily Record unsung hero award; celebrates the forthcoming opening of Sam's House, named for Mrs Jennings's late son Samuel, as a space for children to take part in facilitated play, art and craft activities, music and stories as a means of therapeutic self expression; and calls on the Government to support initiatives of this kind.
