Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month 2017
EDM number 490 in 2017-19, proposed by Nicholas Dakin on 01/11/2017.
Categorised under the topics of Charities, Diseases and Health education and preventive medicine.
That this House notes that November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month across the UK and that 16 November 2017 is designated World Pancreatic Cancer Day; congratulates all pancreatic cancer charities and their supporters on their activities to raise awareness of the disease during November, including the joint Purple Lights initiative, which aims to light up as many public landmarks as possible throughout the month; recognises that pancreatic cancer is the fifth largest cause of cancer deaths in the UK; acknowledges that the disease has the lowest five-year survival rate of the 21 most common cancers at less than seven per cent, a figure which has increased only four per cent over the last 40 years; further notes that a 2017 poll commissioned by Pancreatic Cancer UK found that 64 per cent of people cannot name a single symptom of pancreatic cancer; and urges the Government to take action to deliver long-overdue improvements to pancreatic cancer awareness, diagnosis, treatment, care and research.
