Civil Nuclear Police
EDM number 444 in 2017-19, proposed by Jamie Stone on 24/10/2017.
Categorised under the topics of Industrial relations, Nuclear power, Pensions and Police.
That this House notes with concern the Government's decision to omit Civil Nuclear Constabulary officers from the entitlement to retire at 60 held by Home Office police forces and Police Scotland; further notes that the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, as the sponsoring agency of the Civil Nuclear Constabulary, has failed to equalise the terms and conditions applying to these police officers in regard to retirement age, notwithstanding the fact that the officers in question are required to carry and deploy firearms and ammunition weighing approximately 30 kilograms and have potentially to respond to terrorist attacks in support of territorial police forces on the streets of England, Scotland and Wales; recognises concerns expressed by the Civil Nuclear Police Federation that the decision to extend the retirement age of officers to 65 or 68 could affect operational safety; and calls on the Government urgently to reconsider its decision.
